The Victorian valentine is a dainty creation of lace paper, pretty flowers and sweet scents. They were perfectly original and won admiration from all the fair to whom they were presented.
The beautiful lace paper used for Victorian valentines was achieved by the processes of gilding or silvering, cutting-out, perforating, embossing, and otherwise treating paper in imitation of lace-work or embroidery.
